Charlotte Film & Video Association, (CFVA), is a local organization of professionals in the media arts industry. They are embarking on one of their greatest efforts ever with the goal of stimulating more business; translate more dollars in the local economy, by showcasing our local area and attractions. CFVA has created a national contest for film and video editors that will involve the editors in cutting landmark site video footage shot by local crew members of CFVA. This footage will be for the contest as well as being furnished to Beth Petty of the Charlotte Regional Film Office for use in recruiting producers and directors from around the world to produce their feature films, commercials, and series TV shows in the Charlotte area. Crew members who work on this project will have the opportunity to have their resumes included in this DVD promotional package. This video footage is currently beginning shooting now and CFVA is currently lining up crews that will consist of videographers, writers, makeup people, lighting technicians, grips, sound people, prop masters, costume and wardrobe people, production assistants, etc. to shoot basic scenes around local landmarks. All members are encouraged to join in this effort as well as non members who feel that their talents could be useful. The contest, tentatively titled “Cut This”, will involve film and video editors from around the nation cutting footage that is supplied especially for the contest. All footage has to be compiled onto tape and will be shipped to contestants on the same date. Entrants will receive a mini DV tape of footage and some specially licensed music and sound effects. They will be given 30 days to edit their entry and return it. They are permitted to use only the footage that they are furnished with no additions. The best entries as judged by CFVA will be entered into CFVA’s 5th annual Southern Exposure Film Forum next November. Deadline for Southern Exposure is September 1, 2006. Information, rules and entry forms can be downloaded on CFVA’s websites, www.cfvonline.com and www.film-forum.net. The winning entry will receive a prize planned to be in the multi thousands of dollars. CFVA is currently working to recruit a major sponsor to fund the prize money both for the editing contest as well as Southern Exposure. They’re looking for someone to put their name at the head of these events. Persons interested in working with crews shooting this footage should contact: melvynw@earthlink.net as soon as possible. Southern Exposure will be a 3 day event November 19 -21, 2006 at Central Piedmont Community College’s main downtown Charlotte campus. This event is sponsored by CFVA and the CPCC Student Government. In addition to 2 full days of film screenings there will be seminars by industry leaders with such topics as: finding money for your production, editing seminars, makeup and special effects seminars, technical seminars from Verbatim, and question and answer sessions with filmmakers. |
